About Us

IIT Jammu is recognized as an Institute of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. It is an autonomous public higher education institution operating under the governance of the IIT Council and funded by the Government of India.

Inaugurated on 6th August 2016, IIT Jammu welcomed its first batch of students at its temporary campus in Paloura, Jammu. During its formative years, the institute was mentored by IIT Delhi, strengthening its academic and research foundations.

In 2018, IIT Jammu transitioned to its permanent main campus located in Jagti, Nagrota. Situated along National Highway 44, the campus is approximately 15 kilometers from Jammu Airport, ensuring convenient accessibility for students, faculty, and industry collaborators.

Institute Incubation & Innovation Council (I3C) The Institute Incubation & Innovation Council (I3C) is IIT Jammu’s Section-8 not-for-profit organization responsible for conducting the online certificate programs of IIT Jammu. I3C enables agile, industry-aligned programs designed to evolve with emerging technologies and industry needs.

Map of Jammu: The institute is located in the crown of India - Jammu & Kashmir. The logo gives prominence to the map as it brilliantly speaks about its origin and establishment.

Picture of the Sun: The striking splash of the sunbeams is designed to form the map. It positions the institute as one illuminating the lives of its students through its effective pedagogy.

Ashok Chakra: The 24 spokes of Ashok Chakra are represented in the logo through the rays of the sun to demonstrate that the institute celebrates Indian-ness.
